A Paradise for Snorkellers
The Caribbean Sea is completely fascinating, the turquoise color of its waters and its clarity will make you marvel at this scenery. If you are thinking of visiting the Riviera Maya, you definitely have to enjoy a few days in Cozumel. To get there you must take a flight to Cancun and then the ferry to this enchanted place.
The island has incomparable views, in and out of the water. It is one of the favorite destinations for snorkeling thanks to the fact that it is part of the second largest barrier reef in the world.
What can I do in Cozumel? Start your visit in Punta Sur, where you will find a park and an ecological reserve. See the Celarain Lighthouse, a modern lighthouse that contrasts with the Caracol Temple, a pre-Hispanic construction. To visit the archaeological zone you must make a prior reservation at the Center of the National Institute of Anthropology and History. The park is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Discover the center of Cozumel and eat a traditional marquesita, a kind of thin and sweet omelette filled with ball cheese and hazelnut cream. If you prefer, enjoy an ice cream from Parque Juárez, a place so calm, beautiful and silent that you will not want to leave.
Finally, take a tour of the Museum of the Island with four exhibition rooms in which you will learn about part of the history and marine life of the place settled in the middle of the Caribbean. Admire the Public Clock, built in 1910 in the town of San Miguel, and then take a tour of the Mestizaje monument, an ode to the Mexican mestizo race.
